The procedure combines high-resolution MRI with real-time ultrasound imaging to guide the robotic-assisted needle precisely to the prostate lesion. This technique enhances the accuracy of detecting clinically significant prostate cancer while reducing unnecessary sampling. Prostate biopsy can be performed by transperineal or transrectal approaches.
- Elevated PSA levels, above 4.0 ng/dL
- Suspicious lesions seen on prostate MRI, PIRADS 3, 4 or 5 lesions
- Previous negative biopsy with rising PSA
- Suspected prostate cancer recurrence after focal therapy
- Active surveillance monitoring for early prostate cancer
- High accuracy in detecting significant prostate cancer
- Fewer unnecessary biopsies compared to random sampling
- Minimally invasive and well-tolerated
- Low risks of complications, less than 1%
- Performed under local or general anaesthesia or moderate sedation
- MRI data is imported and fused with real-time transrectal ultrasound
- Robotic arm guides biopsy needle to targeted lesion
- Multiple cores are taken from suspicious and systematic normal-looking areas
- Tissue samples are sent for histopathological analysis

- Day procedure with quick discharge
- Mild discomfort or rectal bleeding may occur
- Resume normal activities in 1–2 days
- Antibiotics prescribed to prevent infection
- Results available within 1 week
- Bleeding or infection (rare)
- Discomfort or pain post-procedure
- Urinary retention (rare)
- False-negative (sampling error, though lower than standard biopsy)
